About us

Lekkid is a project born in Barcelona to create innovative products that develop children’s creativity

Play is a fundamental aspect of childhood, and it has a crucial role in children’s growth and development. Playtime is not just about fun and entertainment; it also plays a vital role in developing essential soft skills in children, such as creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking and social skills.

What is free play?

Free play is an interesting way of letting children playing without the direct guidance of an adult. It is also known as unstructured play and it is a time for children to play by themselves or with others, without any specific goal or outcome. It is a time for children to use their imaginations, explore their interests, and learn through play.

Why free play is important for children?

Firstly, free playtime allows children to explore their interests and discover their talents. For instance, a child who enjoys drawing might discover their artistic abilities during free playtime and develop a passion for art. When children play freely, they are not constrained by rules, and they can let their imagination run wild. They can experiment with different things, create their own games, and engage in imaginative play.

Secondly, playing freely enhances creativity in children. Creativity is the ability to think outside the box and come up with new ideas. When children engage in free playtime, they are encouraged to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions to problems. For example, a child playing with construction toys might create a unique structure that no one else has ever thought of before. This type of creativity helps children to think more critically and adapt to new situations.

Thirdly, free play allows children to develop social skills. When children play together, they learn how to communicate, collaborate, and negotiate with one another. They also learn how to share and take turns, which are essential skills for building relationships with others. For instance, a child playing a game with others might learn how to compromise and work together to achieve a common goal.

Lastly, free playtime allows children to develop emotional intelligence, the ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions and those of others. When children play freely, they have the opportunity to express their emotions in a safe and supportive environment. They can also learn how to recognize and respond to the emotions of others. For example, a child might learn how to comfort a friend who is upset during free playtime.

In conclusion, free playtime is essential for children’s growth and development. It enables them to explore their interests, develop creativity, enhance social skills, and develop emotional intelligence. At Lekkid we are committed to the use of play as a key tool to develop soft skills such as creativity to prepare children for the demands of the 21st century. Currently at Lekkid we have two lines of play. On the one hand, Imaginary Fauna, a game composed of interconnectable pieces of different materials and colors, available in Jungle and Desert versions. On the other hand, Magical Lights, a construction game where pieces are combined to design shapes and figures in order to build their own lamps.
